New Book Release – Cutter Frisco

Book Release Post

For over a year now I’ve been working to finish my very first book, Cutter Frisco – Growing up on the Original Southfork Ranch.  I’m also excited that the Frisco Heritage Museum is going to host a book release party for me and my book.  Details about the event are as follows:

  • Date:  Tuesday, September 30, 2014
  • Time:  7:00 PM
  • Place:  The Depot in the Heritage Center, 6499 Page Street, Frisco, TX  75034
  • Admission:  Free
  • Refreshments?  Yes

Writing this book was a difficult process because it is a story about a family – my family – that once had it all.  Okay, maybe I shouldn’t say that we “had it all” but to the outside world it sure seemed like we had a lot.  But as with so many other things on the old Box Ranch, I was not in control of our destiny.

This is also a story about a beloved horse named Cutter Frisco.  He wasn’t exactly my horse but I sure thought of him as mine.  I was the one who took care of him, fed him, rode him and washed him most days.  I thought Cutter Frisco and I would be together forever but somewhere along the way, I lost my favorite cutting horse.  When the family ranch fell on hard times, we had to sell most of our horses to make a small profit.  After Cutter Frisco was sold, I never saw him again.

I will be giving a presentation that evening as well.  Some of the topics I will discuss are as follow:

  • Was my father the real J.R.?
  • The inside stock trade that financed the purchase of the ranch
  • Frank Gifford and Monday Night Football
  • The Cattle Baron’s Ball
  • The TV show Dallas
  • The Flash Fire that destroyed the ranch

The event is sponsored by the Frisco Heritage Museum, the Heritage Association of Frisco and the Frisco Public Library.
